What an amazing year 24/25 has been, membership remains high with in excess of 130 members
It’s a privilege to be part of an organisation the has been recognised by MSUK as over 100 Years old, Brecon Motor Club is a huge part of Brecon Town’s history, infact a local pub, THE GREMLIN give it’s name to our oldest Event back in the 1960’s. It also led the way to the club designing a new logo incorporating the original 1920’s logo and the 2020 logo together, and launching it at the 100 years of Motorsport Car Show.
First of all, I'd to thank the whole committee for all their dedication and time and to Dave Thomas, David Sinnett and Darren Brill for their respective roles in the Club. I’m also pleased to see a younger generation coming through which is vital to a successful Club – so thank-you Gethin Phillips, Hannah Phillips, Liam Griffiths and new boy Josh Jones.
Personally, I want to say thankyou to Geth and Hannah along with Touchdown Design for producing a fantastic long awaited Club Website. The new look, easy to use and informative layout along with the membership and Calendar section will help both the committee and Club members alike. Also to Hannah who has produced fantastic Newsletters bringing the latest achievements of competing members, marshals and social events. It would be really helpful to Hannah if club members would let her know their weekend activities whether it’s Marshalling or Competing so it can be put in the Newsletter.
The Club has now 4 main events in it’s calendar and I thank our generous sponsors OLD FORGE GARAGE (Brian and Tim Dennis) for their continued support to the “New and very popular Gremlin Historic Rally Format”
FAIRFIELD MOTORS Co. ( John Morgan) for the Hill Climb, which has been so successful we have looked into running a second!!
BLACK MOUNTAINS TOUR whilst it doesn’t have a headline sponsor the positive feedback in 2024 from competitors was overwhelming – thank-you Chris Phillips.
The CMJ MOTORS (Craig Jones) and J&P ENGINEERING (Josh Jones) for the Motor Show held for the first time in the Market Hall, Brecon in January. The Venue has been booked for January 2026 and we look forward to Hosting EPYNT LEGENDS theme next time.
Nav. Scatters have continued successfully under the guidance of Gethin with both committee members and club members taking it in turns to organise an evening of fun with crews having to negotiate snowy , dry and wet events. So huge thanks to Chris Phillips, Darren, Austin and Richard Brill, Liam Griffiths and James Chappell.
Club competitors have been very busy and successful again this year with Sam Weller becoming the 2024 Welsh Tarmacadam Champion Co-driver, and 2024 King of Epynt Class 6 Champion Co-driver whilst only 17 years old. I’m sure there are great times around the corner and I know he will grasp them with both hands and make his dreams come true.
Dai and Glyn Price continue to set records with over a Centenary of rallies in their BMW – not many cars can say that. John Morgan won both days of the Fairfield Motors Co Epynt Hill Climb.
Toby Adams and Ian Meakin won the HRCR Tarmac Championship and Ian Taylor proved once again he can successfully sit on both sides of the car.
Colin and Harri Evans are getting quicker and quicker in their BMW, you can see there is a lot more to come from this father and son team. Martin Leonard, Jason Murphy, Chris Phillips and Gethin Phillips continue to improve their positions, on each event, tackling the HRCR Historic road rally championship. Class wins becoming the norm.
Bleddyn Thomas had a mixed year with some annoying mechanical issues, however the end of the year saw the reliability and finishes return. Mike Simpson and Dale Gibbons had a mixed season in 2024 and are concentrating on Tarmac events in 2025.
Jason Prichard had a rare year off in 2024 but are out this year tackling the BRC in the Toyota Yaris
Lyndon Evans has also continued his success on the Hill Climb circuit picking up more class wins at the WAMC awards evening.
The lovely Audi TT of Liam Griffiths and Geth Phillips was christened in 2024, the first event they had some mechanical issues and the second event gave the crew a finish. If I’m correct it was both crew members first attempt at stage rallying. Craig and Josh Jones had a quiet year in 2024
If I have missed anybody out please accept my apologies but as you can read it’s been a very full and successful year.
Thank -you to everyone who has given up their weekends to marshal, without you there would be no motorsport.
The JEFF CHAMBERS CLUB PERSON OF THE YEAR Award was presented to Ian Griffiths at our very well attended Xmas Dinner for his all-round contribution to the Club during the year.
I’ll like to finish off by thanking Chris Phillips for stepping in as Secretary and helping me through my first year as Chairman.
A huge thank you to all those you supported us today and joined us as Motorsport UK presented us with official recognition of being over 100 years old, one of the oldest in the UK! We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the cars on show, with thanks to the owners for bringing some very special cars along - with some not moved for a number of years! We will see you next time! The event was kindly sponsored by CMJ Motors and J&P Engineering. Both Craig and Josh are long standing supporters of Brecon Motor Club
